MINNIE / STUDENT & MAKER

Engineering.
Music.
Human possibility.

I’m a Year 12 student at Cheltenham Ladies’ College. I make things at the intersection of engineering and music, and explore what AI can help us create.

BASED IN THE UK · ROOTS ACROSS FOUR CITIESENGINEERING / MUSIC / ACCESSIBILITY / AI

A musician with an engineering mindset. A programmer who loves literature. Curious about how things work—and who they can work for.

Born in Beijing, I spent my early childhood in Auckland, grew up in Hong Kong, and moved to the UK for Year 9. Today, I’m in Year 12 at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, with strong academic interests in mathematics, physics and biology.

I’m aiming to study engineering, with a particular curiosity for the overlap between music, AI and technology that expands access. A visit to MIT Media Lab helped me find a direction: using modern technology to help people with physical disabilities enjoy a higher quality of life.

Music is part of how I think.

I started piano at five and violin at six, earning LTCL and ATCL qualifications respectively. I’m now a school organist and organ scholar.

I accompany and help lead the school choir, and volunteer as an organist at churches in the UK and Hong Kong. Beyond performing, I especially love composing.

SOFTWARE / ACCESSIBILITYApp Store release forthcoming

Music, beyond hearing.

A music accessibility app

An app I developed independently to help people with hearing loss enjoy music, with a particular focus on the pipe organ. It brings my programming and musical interests into the same project.

Inside the project

The starting question

How can technology offer another way into a musical experience?

My contribution

Independent development of the app, informed by my interest in music and accessibility.

Current stage

Preparing for an App Store release. The download link will be added when the app is available.

HARDWARE / HAPTICSIndependent engineering project

Feel the organ.

A wearable vibration belt

A wearable belt I built independently to help people with hearing loss experience organ music through vibration. A physical approach to the same question of musical accessibility.

Inside the project

The starting question

How might vibration help someone experience organ music?

My contribution

Independent creation of a wearable belt that uses vibration to support the musical experience.

Why the organ?

As an organist, I’m interested in finding ways for more people to experience this instrument.

Inside Medical Robotics

Visual3D · Surgical navigation & game-based rehabilitation

Explored how a surgical robot aligns images, patient position and a tool guide. Learned why inspection, traceability and reliability matter when turning a prototype into a medical device—and saw how an on-screen game can connect to physical rehabilitation.

Engineering for a Fuller Life

MIT Media Lab · Bionics & brain–computer interfaces

Met Professor Hugh Herr and learned about his journey into bionics. Exploring his work and brain–computer interfaces helped me choose a direction for my future studies: using modern technology to improve quality of life for people with physical disabilities.
